The Tri Sigma Foundation has implemented several exciting changes to the scholarship application process for the 2026-27 cycle. These changes are the result of participant feedback and review from the Scholarship Review Committee.
Update #1: New scholarship platform
The scholarship application has moved from OpenWater to GivaGrant. Designed specifically for fraternal organizations like the Tri Sigma Foundation, this new platform allows for a simplified application process and improved user experience for applicants and scholarship readers.
Update #2: One letter of recommendation required
The Foundation previously required two letters of recommendation. Applicants are now required to submit only one letter of recommendation. Additionally, applicants will submit the letter as part of their application instead of asking the writer to submit the letter on their behalf.
This change simplifies the process and allows applicants to have greater control over their application materials; however, the Scholarship Review Committee reserves the right to contact anyone who writes a letter of recommendation for verification purposes.
Update #3: Fewer essay responses required
Application essay questions have been restructured to more closely align with the expectations scholarship readers have of applicants. These questions reflect applicants’ connection to Tri Sigma both now and in the future and their dedication to the sorority’s values of wisdom, power, faith, hope, and love. Merit-based scholarships now require only four short-answer responses, and needs-based scholarships require one.
Update #4: Scoring rubric is available to applicants
As part of the Foundation’s continued efforts to remain fully transparent with applicants, the scoring rubric used by scholarship readers is now available here along with other application resources.
Update #5: Merit-based and needs-based scholarships are two separate applications
There are now two separate applications for merit-based and needs-based scholarships to eliminate confusion for applicants and scholarship readers. Additionally, members who wish to apply for a needs-based scholarship must complete a merit-based application in addition to the needs-based application.
The needs-based application only requires applicants to upload FAFSA documents for 2026-27 and answer one short-answer question. This new process ensures needs-based applicants are considered for additional merit-based scholarships if they are not selected for a needs-based scholarship.
