The Labyrinth Leadership Experience: Announcing our 2012 Class

Our selected participants for this capstone leadership experience for women of character

Woodstock, VA April 2, 2011 – Sigma Sigma Sigma National Sorority (“Tri Sigma”) announces the selected participants for the inaugural Labyrinth Leadership Experience, the capstone leadership experience for members of Tri Sigma. Scheduled for June 6 10th, 2012, this experience will take place in two key locations. The first is the birthplace of our country’s leadership, the Nation’s Capital, Washington, D.C. The second location will be the home of Tri Sigma, the Mabel Lee Walton National Memorial Headquarters, in Woodstock, Virginia.

Our participants were selected by a committee that evaluated extensive applications and determined the first class of alumnae and collegian participants in this once-in-a-lifetime leadership experience. From Chris Smithisler, Director of Programs for Tri Sigma, “The labyrinth is a universal symbol for the twists and turns that we take on the path of life. It is distinguished from a maze, which often leads to one becoming lost. A labyrinth has one way in and one way out and most importantly, there is no right or wrong way to travel the path. We are thrilled to be launching the Labyrinth Leadership Experience this summer after four years in development! This is a great opportunity for Tri Sigmas and I can't wait to watch the evolution of this experience and the indelible mark that it leaves on our communities.”

Tri Sigma members, at all ages and life-stages will have the unique opportunity to spend five days in reflection, exploring the five core values of Tri Sigma within the context of character- based leadership. All have accepted the invitation to participate.

The development of Tri Sigmas as Women of Character committed to ethical and values-based leadership is the cornerstone of the Women of Character Initiative, and The Labyrinth is the most recent leadership program developed under the Initiative. The Labyrinth Leadership Experience has been designed for a key group of initial participants that reflect all facets of our organization, i.e. collegians, alumnae, staff, and volunteers.

Our next Labyrinth Leadership Experience will take place in 2014. We thank our fantastic applicants and encourage all applicants not selected to apply again for consideration. The

Labyrinth is funded in part thanks to a generous donation from the Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation in honor of Laura Ward Sweet on her retirement as National President.
